This week Classics Confidential talks to the acclaimed children’s author Caroline Lawrence, whose fabulous series The Roman Mysteries follows the adventures of twelve-year old ‘detectrix’ Flavia Gemina and her friends Jonathan, Nubia and Lupus. In this interview Caroline tells about how she came to write books set in the ancient world, and shows us her collection of ‘inspiring artefacts’ – which range from the famous ‘sponge on a stick’ to a box of Roman chewing gum.

You can read more about Caroline and her work on her website and her blog Roman Mysteries, Western Mysteries.
