Receptions of Herodotus

In this week’s interview, Dr Vasiliki Zali from University College London tells us about a Classical Association panel that she coordinated on the reception of the Greek historian Herodotus in antiquity and beyond. She explains why she thought it was important to have a panel on this topic, and gives us an outline of her own contribution, which looked at how Herodotus, Thucydides and Xenophon drew on the mythical past of Athens, and argued in particular for close resemblance between Herodotus and Xenophon which further reveals similarities in narrative strategy and historical outlook.
